NaNoWriMo Stole My Life

So where have I been for the past month and a half? Completely and totally obsessed with the life sucking event known as NaNoWriMo, also known as National Novel Writing Month.

First there was the few weeks in October. The planning, the plotting; trying to find some kind of story. The nervousness as the date ticked closer to November 1st, so I could start the madness of writing 50,000 words in thirty days.

And then? Madness. Late nights, sore fingers (gotta love the arthritis), and s.t.r.e.s.s! My story was driving me nuts, my characters had less personality than the couch I was writing from. By the end it was one hell of a mess.

Honestly I love writing but put in a pressure situation and my brain starts getting twitchy. Put me under pressure when it comes to getting a job done? I excel. Put me under pressure when I am trying to be creative? I make myself miserable.

In the end though, it all worked out though… because I won! First time, after several pathetic and unsuccessful tries. Allow me to do my own little happy dance!

Back to business however, there is a lot to talk about for the next couple days. We have Fantino and his attack on the Canadian Charter, Ford and his attack on Transit City, more G20 stuff, and now just erupting all over twitter Don Cherry pissing all over city council. Should make for an interesting week.

Sunday Fluff – 90′s Nostalgia

This song came up on my Pandora and I immediately began thinking of guilty pleasures.

That song would be “Jumper” by Third Eye Blind. The performance starts about 45 seconds in.

Honestly it’s probably pretty atrocious. It’s simple and tries to be hard rock.  It’s overly earnest and overly melodramatic. It’s like a precursor to emo.

And yet when it came on the (online) radio, I couldn’t help but sing along, sadly nearly the top of my lungs. Ah, coming of age in the late 90′s.
